Food Cooperative - Covid-19 UPDATE AND Procedures

Established in 2011, the Benalla Food Co-Op enables members to buy mainly Australian produced non-perishable foods without packaging. Local and regional producers are supported where possible.

Aim of the group
To encourage the responsible use of our earth’s resources, reduce packaging and excessive handling of food, support Australian growers, reduce food miles and food costs.

Products
Non-perishable foods such as flour, cereals, seeds, rice, sugar, beans, peas, dried fruits and nuts, are purchased in bulk. We also stock an increasing range of organic products and Fairtrade organic tea and coffee. Members can purchase any quantity of product and are encouraged to bring their own containers. Download the Food Co-Op Product List.

Membership
Membership of the Benalla Food Cooperative entitles you to one year’s use of the cooperative.  As part of your membership you are required to volunteer for a duty four times a year. Duties required include setting up, processing orders, morning/afternoon tea, packing & cleaning up.

The cost of membership is $25 per year.

Venue
The bulk food co-op operates from the kindergarten hall at the Benalla Uniting Church, Carrier St. Benalla (opposite Coles). The kettle is always on.

Sales Day
The sale of food items currently occurs four times a month including one Monday (4 - 6.30 pm);  one Thursday (9.30-11.30 am) and the 2nd and 4th Saturday's (9.30-11.30am). The 4th Saturday opening coincides with the Benalla Market Day.  See calendar for open dates.

Insurance

The bulk food co-op operates under the banner of the Benalla Sustainable Future Group. In order to address insurance requirements, members of the Bulk Food Co-operative who are not financial members of Benalla Sustainable Future Group will become associate members of the association in order to meet the requirements of the insurance policy.

If you are interested in becoming a member of this vibrant group you are welcome to come and have a look or send me an email. You will be supplied with a complete list of items we stock.
