BSFG's Bicycle Action Group was established at the General meeting on Thursday 23 February 2017. The group had its first meeting on 9 May 2017. There were four members in the group, however the group has not been active since 2018. A strategic plan was being drafted to set the direction for the group. The group had representation on Council’s “Pathways to the Future Project” – reference group. This project plans for the delivery of a safe separated path network, mainly in the CBD but with connections to high pedestrian, scooter and bicycle traffic areas, such as community and health centres, schools and sporting facilities.
The purpose of the group
Some of the roles that have been identified by the group are:
- Be an advisory group to Council’s Pathways to the Future project
- Set local priorities
- Recommend the construction of links to other cycling venues, such as Winton Wetlands, Reef Hills, etc
- For members to bring issues from the community to the meeting to discuss and suggest solutions
There are health, environmental, economic and social benefits of cycling. Therefore the group will look at planning networks, improving cyclists’ safety and encouraging cycling participation. The ultimate goal is to reduce the carbon footprint of Benalla and thus finding ways to overcome any barriers that prevent cycling.
This group is not active at the moment however if you are interested in being involved in this group or wish to make any suggestions, contact Peter Maddock on 0418 135 330, email [email protected].
