Benalla Food Co-operative

Food Coop open Monday 2 June at 4 pm; Saturday 14, Thursday 19 & Saturday 28 MAY at 9.30 am
'Food Co-op News'
Established in 2011 and located at the Uniting Church in Carrier Street, the Benalla Food Co-Op enables members to buy mainly Australian produced non-perishable foods without packaging. Local and regional producers are supported where possible.

Aim of the group
To encourage the responsible use of our earth’s resources, reduce packaging and excessive handling of food, support Australian growers, reduce food miles and food
 
Products
Non-perishable foods such as flour, cereals, seeds, rice, sugar, beans, peas, dried fruits and nuts, are purchased in bulk. We also stock an increasing range of organic products and Fairtrade organic tea and coffee. Members can purchase any quantity of product and are encouraged to bring their own containers. Membership
Membership of the Benalla Food Cooperative entitles you to one year’s use of the cooperative.  As part of your membership you are required to volunteer for a duty four times a year. Duties required include setting up, processing orders, morning/afternoon tea, packing & cleaning up. Members of the Benalla Food Coop receive emails throughout the month with rosters, information about additions, deletions, new products, delays in delivery, hints, alerts, thanks and more. The e-mail bulletins also include ideas for growing and using fruits and vegetables, and sometimes recipes such as 'Apricot Amoretti Biscuits'  Yum.

The cost of membership is $25 per year.

Venue
The bulk food co-op operates from the kindergarten hall at the Benalla Uniting Church, Carrier St. Benalla (opposite Coles). The kettle is always on.

Sales Day
The sale of food items occurs four times a month including one Monday (4 - 6 pm), Monday over winter Jun-Aug will be 3.30-5.30 pm;  one Thursday (9.30-11.30 am) & the 2nd and 4th Saturday's (9.30-11.30am). The 4th Saturday opening coincides with the Benalla Market Day.  Please commence shopping before 5.15pm on Mondays and 11.15am on Fridays and Saturdays.  See calendar for open dates.

Insurance

The bulk food co-op operates under the banner of the Benalla Sustainable Future Group. In order to address insurance requirements, members of the Bulk Food Co-operative who are not financial members of Benalla Sustainable Future Group will become associate members of the association in order to meet the requirements of the insurance policy.
