Interests, aspirations and action groups
Benalla Sustainable Future Group has a particular focus on advocacy through Education and Media/Lobbying and has interests and aspirations across the sustainability spectrum -
- Biodiversity
- Food and Agriculture
- Renewable Energy
- Sustainable Building
- Transport/Travel
- Waste/Plastic
BSFG action groups the Benalla Food Cooperative and Renewable Energy Benalla have been active for many years - the Food Coop for 11 years and REB for six years. Plastic Wise Benalla engages in periodic campaigns, such as during 'Plastic Free July', while the Benalla Local Food Network works to increase awareness of localisation and introduced 'Grow Free Carts' to Benalla.
In early 2022 BSFG reviewed its past achievements, opportunities for the future and plans for the next 5 - 10 years. Workshops were held and online responses received. New action groups have been formed and are keen to take on new members:
1. Widespread Adoption of Sustainable Farming Systems
2. Connected and Engaged Community
3. 100% Renewable and Community Owned Energy - Renewable Energy Benalla
4. Ecological, Sustainable Planning and Development and Retrofits
5. Greening and Cooling Our Urban Spaces - Greening Benalla
Please consider participating in one of these groups. Come along to one of our general meetings and introduce yourself, or contact us via the Contact page. For all of us concerned about the future for our descendants, we need to be strong, viable and active!
