The Benalla Sustainable Future Group was established in 2010 by Benalla & District residents concerned about environmental sustainability and the lack of action on climate change both locally & nationally. By coming together we can work towards a more sustainable future & a cleaner planet.
Climate Emergency Petition to Benalla CouncilBSFG's Climate Emergency Petition was discussed at the Planning and Development Committee meeting of Council on Wednesday 29th September, the culmination of over 18 months of efforts to bring this discussion to a point of definitive action by Council. President of BSFG Peter Holmes; Jessica Patterson and Lachlan Sands, school captains Benalla P-12, and Dr Gerard Brownstein addressed the Committee via zoom in item 4 of the Planning & Development Committee meeting agenda. BSFG General MeetingIt was pleasing to be able to meet together again on Thursday 23rd September; to hear from Adam Saddler, the newly appointed manager for economic development and sustainability at Benalla Rural City, and to share news when mingling over supper. The next General Meeting will be on Thursday 25 November at 7.30 pm in the Uniting Church Meeting Room - pandemic regulations permitting.

A new edition of BSFG's newsletter is due out soon! In addition to covering presentations on the climate emergency petition in March, articles in BSFG's May 2021 Newsletter (#30) include ‘Are the wheels of climate change action turning more quickly - or is it just spin?' (Peter Holmes), plus items on the Local Food Network's Grow Free Cart’, the Food Cooperative's10th anniversary, the Swanpool Environmental Film Festival and Benalla's Community Energy Project.
MembershipBenalla Sustainable Future Group encourages anyone interested in climate change issues and a more sustainable lifestyle to subscribe to our mailing list, become a member of our group & participate in our activities. One-year membership is $25 per household or $20 if a member of the Food Co-operative. A three-year membership is $60. Membership for full time students 18 years and under and people who are unemployed is $5. An online application form for EFT transactions is now available!
